I started programming when I was in my late thirties, by playing around with Lotus spreadsheet macros. This was during the very early 1990s before MS Excel came out. By the mid 90s the WWW became usable by everyone. This is when I started learning my first programming language which was Java. I was writing Java Servlets and connecting to data using JDBC. Then by 2000, I graduated to MySQL and this is when I Also took a couple of Oracle courses. I asked my teacher if I could make a six figure income by studying SQL and he encouraged me to do so. It was not till 2007 when I was age 52 that I got my first serious job in SQL programming. At the time I already had a successful self employment Gig that I finally gave up after 16 years. So now fast forward to 2023 and I will be turning 70 soon. My programming job lasted only 11 years and I am now retired for 6 years. During my retirement I learned all the things I always wanted to learn. I replaced my Java with Javascript and my data is now NoSQL so I am completely Serverless.
